Undergraduate Supply Internship - Fall 2009

GlobalGiving seeks a fun, motivated, self starter with an interest being part of a small, fast moving organization that is at the cutting edge of international aid and philanthropy.

GlobalGiving directly connects social entrepreneurs in the developing world with individuals, corporations, and institutions that have an interest in funding projects that fuel positive social and environmental change.

Founded in 2000 by two ex-World Bank executives, GlobalGiving is growing the overall international development market by leveraging current international aid and philanthropy resources and engaging donors and social entrepreneurs who have historically been marginalized by the international aid and philanthropy system.

The candidate should have an interest in international development and be eager to help GlobalGiving better support social entrepreneurs working around the world. He or she will work with GlobalGiving's supply team to improve the quality of projects on our website and help project leaders succeed on GlobalGiving. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required along with good analytical skills and knowledge of SPSS, Stata.

Possible tasks include:

  • Investigating and designing tools to help project leaders market their work and maximize donations for their projects
  • Analyzing projects and funding patterns to determine what factors are important for projects to succeed on GlobalGiving
  • Reviewing and submitting projects for posting on the GlobalGiving site
  • Communicating with project leaders about due diligence and project updates, and reviewing submitted materials

Because GlobalGiving sits at the intersection of the corporate, foundation, and NGO worlds, the intern will gain from significant exposure to all three sectors and will learn about on-the-ground development work.

Our office is located in Washington DC's vibrant U St. neighborhood at 1816 12th St NW and is convenient to the U St metro.

GlobalGiving Graduate-level Supply Internship - Fall 2009

GlobalGiving seeks a fun, motivated, self starter with an interest in being part of a small, fast moving organization that is at the cutting edge of international aid and philanthropy.

GlobalGiving directly connects social entrepreneurs in the developing world with individuals, corporations, and institutions that have an interest in funding projects that fuel positive social and environmental change.

Founded in 2000 by two ex-World Bank executives, GlobalGiving is growing the overall international development market by leveraging current international aid and philanthropy resources and engaging donors and social entrepreneurs who have historically been marginalized by the international aid and philanthropy system.

The candidate should have an interest in international development, and be eager to learn about how GlobalGiving can better serve social entrepreneurs around the world by improving their access to financial resources, educational tools, and existing networks in the international aid sector. He or she will work with GlobalGiving's supply team to improve knowledge of the philanthropic sector and grow our emerging network of project organizations as well as conduct statistical analyses to aid the supply and marketing teams. Knowledge of the international development and philanthropy sectors, statistical modeling, strong knowledge of online communities and international NGO networks as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Candidate should also have strong marketing, communications and internet experience and experience with technology and product development.

Possible tasks include:

  • Leveraging networks and tools to help social entrepreneurs promote their projects and analyzing how GlobalGiving can serve different segments of social entrepreneurs
  • Using statistics to explore conversion rates and how projects can better meet geographic and thematic interests of donors
  • Assist in developing a system for reputation or ratings to improve transparency and feedback within the GlobalGiving community
  • Working with the supply team to make GlobalGiving more accessible to social entrepreneurs working at the grassroots level
  • Working with the supply team to develop tools and services to help project leaders use the GlobalGiving platform effectively

GlobalGiving Marketing/Business Development Internships - Fall 2009

Marketing and business development with a splash of social impact!

GlobalGiving seeks motivated, energetic and savvy self starters with an interest in being part of a small, fast moving organization that is at the cutting edge of international aid and philanthropy. GlobalGiving enables individuals, corporations, and institutions to find and directly fund social, environmental, and other development-oriented projects around the world.

Founded in 2000 by two ex-World Bank executives, GlobalGiving is growing the overall international development market by engaging donors to support projects led by social entrepreneurs who have historically been marginalized by the international aid and philanthropy system.

This internship supports the marketing and business development functions of GlobalGiving, helping to attract new donors, develop business partnerships, and execute upon the organization's marketing strategy. The candidate should have an interest in international philanthropy and development, and be eager to learn about the impact that partnerships with the private sector can have on the field. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required. Experience using social networking tools (MySpace, Facebook, etc.), e-commerce sites (eBay, Amazon, etc.), and design tools (PhotoShop, Flash), is helpful. Potential assignments may include:

  • Designing and implementing outreach strategies to generate and increase awareness amongst target audiences
  • Making improvements to our Web site and supporting online marketing activities
  • Marketing collateral development, and writing articles for newsletters and other communications materials
  • Public relations outreach
  • Prospecting and screening qualified prospects for new business development; in particular, evaluating corporate social responsibility performance and strategic interest and activity in international philanthropy.
  • Perform competitive and market research, identifying organizations with similarities to GlobalGiving and our goal of establishing an open-ended marketplace for international development.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to develop sales materials tailored to different customers.
  • Assisting with administrative support as needed.

Because GlobalGiving sits at the intersection of the corporate, foundation, international aid, and NGO worlds, the intern will gain from significant exposure to all sectors, learn, about on-the-ground development work, and have the opportunity to do hands-on marketing.

Currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students are invited to apply; job responsibilities may vary based on the individual's background/experience and expertise. Our office is located in the historic "U" Street area of Washington DC, and is convenient to Metro.
